They loved, taught, and influenced us for a lifetime.
Here we remember some of the people who embodied the
very spirit of RIS
and who have passed away.
Fr. Tom Griffith, C.Ss.R. |
Fr. Tom Griffith, a
director of RIS for many years and whose
idea it was to move the school to its
present campus in Minburi, wrote in 1988:
"What will RIS look like? With 40
rai instead of 5... a complete campus
with more classrooms and hopefully bigger
and better facilities. With all this we
hope that RIS family spirit will remain
unchanged. The school will still try to
continue to help children of all nationalities
to get a good education and prepare them
for their future, as good loving citizens
of their countries and of the world."
Fr. Griffith died a few days before the
opening of RIS Minburi, the school he
envisioned and built. |

| Fr. Jack Boucher was
the first director of RIS. By 1960 Father
was challenged with the rapid expansion
of the school, with many international students
applying. There was no room for more classrooms
– houses pock-marked the total area
behind the church. He had to convince people
to sell their house and property to Father
so he could have classrooms for the children.
He had two schools running side by side,
one in Thai and one in English. It was tight
quarters, and make-shift. But, it worked. |

Sr. Elizabeth Ducros |
Many of us remember Sister
Elizabeth Ducros as the ever-smiling,
gentle lady often seen walking lines of
children from classroom to classroom or
to the church. At the celebration of Sister's
Diamond Jubilee on September 24, 1983, the
students and alumni of Ruamrudee offered
their heartfelt congratulations and appreciation
for a lifetime of dedication. Among the
guests who attended the ceremony were the
Apostolic Pro-Nuncio Archbishop Renato Martino
of the Holy See, and Cardinal Michai Kitbunchu.
But Sister will always be remembered as
the humble little nun who took us under
her wings and into God's love. |

| A flashback to the lovely smiles of our
two dear Miss Marys – Mary Clague
and Mary (Muang Gyi) Tin Tin Aye, who graced
the school with their elegant presence and
helped generations of ESL students quickly
gain confidence in the English language.
Miss Mary Tin Tin Aye (right) continued
to teach at RIS Minburi up until retirement. |

Mr.
Ajit Sachdev |
Fr. Griffith hands Mr. Sachdev
an Outstanding Teacher Award, in this picture
from the 1984 school yearbook. Mr. Sachdev
taught Math, Algebra and Calculus for years
and years. Many of his students are successful
doctors, engineers and professors today. |

Mme. Marcelle Suphaphong
Never the same dress is how former students
and colleagues remember Mrs. Marcelle.
She was one of a kind foremost, French
teacher second! Her personality made classes
interesting if not formidable. We loved
and stood in awe of this special grand
dame.
|

Mr. Thomas Lancaster
Another formidable character with
a heart of gold – Mr. Lancaster
could look stern but was a devoted guardian
of RIS students, even the worst behaved
who'd get sent to detention in the library.
The high school librarian, he subbed
on occasion and played the Church organ.
School feels strange without him.

Mr.
Joseph Wong |
Nobody
checked in or out of school or took science
lab without going through Mr. Joseph Wong
(left). Keeper of the Textbooks he typically
remembered which books you failed to return
the previous school year. And
he prepared all the stuff for our lab
activities. Mr. Francis Wong (right) taught
HS Social Studies for several years and
is fondly remembered by the older alumni. |

Ms.
Marisa Pibulsonggram |
The lovely Ms. Marisa Pibulsonggram
taught English and Social Studies at the
old campus. At RIS Minburi she helped the
Fathers with special projects, fund-raising
and other activities. We were saddened to
learn of her untimely death a few years
ago. |
|
| Mr. Kwunchai was the school
guard, campus traffic director, and caretaker
of all children. "A Guard with a big
heart, a friendly smile and ready hand for
every student," notes the 1982 school
yearbook. He followed RIS to the new campus
and served for several more years before
his death. Though Mr. Kwunchai didn't teach,
a better caregiver and role model students
couldn't ask for. |

The Ruamrudee and Redeemer family is saddened
with the news that Mrs. Cleofe Siribodhi

at the old campus from 1966, and assisted
in the transfer to our new campus, continuing
to help run the school clinic up until 1995.
