Sowing
Seeds of Peace in Asia and the Pacific: Strengthening
and Expanding Regional Peace Activities
is a continuation of the regional peace-building project
that was launched two years ago at RIS. The project
seeks to inspire students to be passionate about building
and maintaining peace throughout the region, and ultimately
around the world.
The project is jointly organized by the Regional Unit
for Social and Human Sciences in Asia and the Pacific
(RUSHSAP), the United Nations Educational, Scientific,
and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Bangkok; the Rotary
Center for Peace and Conflict Studies Chulalongkorn
University, Thailand; and RIS.
This coming March 12-16 2007, RIS will sponsor a unique
workshop designed for educators, entitled "United
for Peace and Human Security in Asia and the Pacific:
Strengthening and Explaining Regional Human Security
and Peace Activities." Click

The Prison Learning
Center project was initiated by
RIS in cooperation with the Department of Corrections,
Ministry of Justice. The goal is to give inmates opportunities
for continued personal, spiritual, and professional
growth. Each center is equipped with computers, books,
and resources on a wide range of topics.
The project is organized and sponsored by RIS in conjunction
with the St. Paul de Chartres Sisters and Assumption
University. Many RIS teachers volunteer to teach prisoners
in the spirit of community service that pervades the
school.
