Brief History of Ruamrudee
International School
1957 – The Redemptorists
of Thailand form the idea for an international school
to meet the educational and catechetical needs of children
of expatriate and local Catholic parishioners. A makeshift
school officially opens on May 17, 1957 – designated
RIS Foundation Day – with 4 wooden classrooms
over a pond behind Holy Redeemer Church.
1963 – Ruamrudee
School (RRS) is officially chartered under the Thai
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and renamed Ruamrudee International
School (RIS).
1965 – New buildings
are completed and blessed by Archbishop Pedroni, Apostolic
Delegate to Thailand, on November 6th.
1966-1967 – The first RIS Senior Class graduates.
1973 – Accreditation for the High School is granted
by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC),
Burlingame, California, USA.
1984 – The Swiss
Association School merges with RIS to become the RIS
Swiss Section.
1989-1990 – The school
is restructured into 3 sections: Elementary School (1-5),
Middle School (6-8), and High School (9-12). RIS is
granted K-12 WASC Accreditation in 1990.
1992-1994 – RIS moves
to its new home in Minburi located east of Bangkok.
1998 – RIS High School
offers the option of a full International Baccalaureate
(IB) diploma.
2002 – St. Thomas
Aquinas Church is blessed on January 5th.
2003 – Redeemer International
School Thailand (RIST) officially opens as a model English
acquisition school and sister school to RIS.
2004 – RIS Family
Day on January 30th inaugurates the 50-m. Astra Pool,
Phoenix Hall, Phoenix playing field, and state-of-the-art
Performing Arts Center.
