English, please!
Beginning this school year, RIS is promoting the use of English, not just in class, but EVERYWHERE on campus. There are two main reasons for this new emphasis on “English only”:

1. English is the only language that all of us—students, teachers, staff, and administrators—have in common. While many speak Thai, not all of us do. Using English at all times means that we never exclude anyone from a conversation because they don’t speak the language.

2. The more students practice speaking English, the better their English will get. That means they need to practice English in all settings at school: in class, of course, but also in the canteen, on the playground, in the library, on the sports field—everywhere!

We know that some of our students, particularly those who have not been speaking English very long, will find this a challenge. Rest assured that teachers and staff will be working this year to help students develop their social English as well as their academic English.

Mastery of English is one of the primary reasons that parents choose an international education for their children. At RIS we are committed to providing an English-only environment to ensure that all of our students develop excellent English language skills. Please help us by supporting our new “English only” initiative.

from Fr. Wirach, Head of School
and Fr. Travis, Campus Chaplain .
