Beginning this school
year, RIS is promoting the use of English,
not just in class, but EVERYWHERE on campus.
There are two main reasons for this new
emphasis on “English only”:
1. English is the only language that
all of us—students, teachers, staff,
and administrators—have in common. While
many speak Thai, not all of us do. Using
English at all times means that we never
exclude anyone from a conversation because
they don’t speak the language.
2. The more students practice speaking
English, the better their English will
get. That means they need to practice
English in all settings at school: in
class, of course, but also in the canteen,
on the playground, in the library, on
the sports field—everywhere!
