HFMD Update for Elementary Parents
Notice for Parents
of Elementary School Students
Please be informed that swimming lessons are
suspended and will remain suspended for elementary
school students until we return from our mid-semester
break on Monday October 30, 2006.
We consider swimming to be a safe activity for
our students but with the presence of Hand Foot
and Mouth Disease (HFMD) we want to doubly ensure
that we have this time to review and reinforce
our health maintenance procedures to be able to
continue to guarantee a healthy environment. We
do not consider swimming to be any more of a risk
for infection than any other setting where children
are together at school. We are simply building
in more precautions. The precautions are:
- The pool deck area is being swabbed with
a disinfectant compound.
- Students are requested to shower before
entering the pool.
- Chlorine levels are checked five times
daily.
- Chlorinated footbaths are provided for
use before entering the pool.
- Change rooms cleaned with disinfectant
daily.
- Students taught healthy and safe swimming
behaviors.
Please note that most of these practices are
in place already.
Please note that as of today the Pre Kindergarten
3 year old and 4 year old classes will be closed
and students asked to stay at home for all of
next week. There have been two cases of confirmed
HFMD in this class. They are separate classes
but share facilities.
Our school nursing team will begin checking
all other students in the elementary school
today. If there is one more case in other classes
the elementary school will be closed for all
elementary students. You will be informed if
another case is found. If you are not informed
please assume your child is to attend school.
Please check the school website daily for possible
updates.
These procedures are in accordance with guidelines
set down by the Ministry of Public Health.
At this same time we have also some reported
cases of Chicken Pox. This is unrelated to HFMD
but is also a common and contagious childhood
disease. It is spread by airborne droplets,
saliva and coming into contact with serum from
moist blisters and is characterized by fever
and spots (small blisters) on the body. If your
child has these symptoms please can you consult
with your doctor and keep your child at home
if indeed they have Chicken Pox.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
Please contact the School Clinic on 025180320-9
Ext. 244 or 304 if you require more information.
Sincerely yours,
Fr Wirach Amornpattana C.Ss.R
