Earlier today a letter went to your child’s
homeroom with information regarding Hand Foot
and Mouth Disease (HFMD).
At that time there were two confirmed cases
in the Pre Kindergarten class and the recommendation
from The Ministry of Public Health was to close
the room for just that group of students.
Their further recommendation was that if there
was a confirmed case from another room then
the Elementary building would need to close.
We have just received a medical certificate
confirming HFMD for a student from another classroom.
We have contacted the Ministry again and they
recommend that we close the Elementary school
for all of next week. Ministry health officials
are with us this afternoon conducting a health
audit to assist us in the prevention of further
infection. They assure us that it is not uncommon
to find this number of HFMD cases in a school
of our size. But to avoid more occurrences children
are to be kept at home.
Parent teacher conferences scheduled for next
week will go ahead as planned. Elementary
School will be closed next week, Mon-Thu 16-19
Oct. Please do not send your Elementary children
to school.
Thank you for your support and cooperation
in this matter.
