RIS Bully-free Domain!
The Year 2007 will be one of the most memorable
years in the history of RIS as we not only celebrate
the 50th Anniversary but also mark a bright
beginning to our Bully Free Community. The school
administration has setup an Anti Bullying Committee
(ABC) which seeks to find solutions, not punishment.
We hope to deal with cases of bullying better
where everyone involved would have an equal
say. The Anti-Bullying Policy has now been translated
into Thai, Mandarin (Traditional & Simplified),
Korean, Japanese & Hindi (coming soon) in
order to allow the non-English speaking parents
to be equally involved.
Under the regular procedure the bully would
be punished and the victim would be helped,
but we believe this practice was much like simply
cutting weed, which grow amidst crops in turn
obliterating them. It was a superficial response
to the issue, the weed would grow back; the
answer lied under, in removing the roots of
the plant. The committee have innovated a concept
of “problem solving” where the bully is given
a chance to redeem himself/herself while counselors
would attempt to comprehend the motif behind
an act of sheer frailty. We have designed a
website for students to cite episodes of bullying
anonymously to be launched next school year.
Techniques were setup for the students to become
more aware since there is always strength in
numbers and most importantly formed the ladder
that hopefully would lead the school to be a
completely bully-free domain.
