HISTORY |
|
Ruamrudee International
School grew from humble beginnings. Founded by the
Redemptorist Fathers of Thailand and the Sisters of Holy
Infant Jesus in September 1957 under the name "Holy
Redeemer School," it started as a four-room elementary
school with two classrooms for the expatriate children of
parishioners of Holy Redeemer Church.
This section of the school
for expatriates followed the British system and only changed
to an American curriculum in 1966. In 1963, the Thai section
and the English section separated.New buildings were
constructed behind Holy Redeemer Church. The English section
was named "Ruamrudee International School" and was
officially licensed under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
This relationship has continued to the present time. The Thai
section retained the name "Holy Redeemer School."
Ruamrudee moved to its new home at the Minburi campus in
August 1992.

| PHILOSOPHY
AND MISSION |
|
Ruamrudee International
School is founded on the Christian spirit of love and
concern for human dignity. The school fosters a family
atmosphere for young people of all races and creeds which
leads them to a respect and concern for others, open-
mindedness, self-esteem, and self-discipline.
These qualities should
enable young people to be good citizens and to prepare them
for future studies and for the responsibilities of their
future lives. We believe that schools which offer a strong
academic program and foster the development of moral
principles best prepare individuals to meet the challenges
and responsibilities in an ever- changing world. Ruamrudee
International School's mission is to provide quality
education and foster character development in a caring
community.

BACKGROUND |
Ruamrudee International
School is a non-profit organization owned and managed by the
Redemptorists of Thailand. We are chartered under the Thai
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and licensed under the Office of
the Private Education Commission of the Thai Ministry of
Education. The school serves approximately 1,890 students,
Kindergarten through Grade 12, with separate elementary,
middle, and high school facilities on one campus.
Of the 43 student nationalities represented here, 40 percent
are Thai, 15 percent Taiwanese, 9 percent Indian, 6 percent
Korean, and 6 percent American. RIS is a college preparatory
school following a modified U.S. curriculum. We are
accredited by the Western Association of Schools and
Colleges (WASC), as well as the Education Ministry, which
recognizes the RIS diploma as equivalent to the Thai
Secondary School Certificate (Grade 12), allowing graduates
the option of enrolling in Thai Universities.
RIS employs a professional staff of 179 men and women
representing 20 nationalities. Of these, 38.5 percent hold
an M.S. or M.A. degree, and 1 percent hold an Ed.D. degree.
Another 163 staff members provide full-time assistance in
the areas of clerical, custodial, maintenance, and food
services. Of the 182 graduates in the Class of 1998, 181 are
enrolled in colleges around the world, mostly in America.
Results of standardized achievement tests (ITBS, ERB)
indicate that our students tested relatively high in
comparison with U.S. national norms.

| OUR
SEAL |
|

The school seal portrays a
globe with the initials RIS underneath. In the globe, the
lines of longitude on the left half represent the
international character of RIS. The right half is an
impression of a church with a flag atop its roof, signifying
the Christian spirit of family love that has always
permeated the RIS community, preparing its students to be
good and responsible citizens of the world.
|
| OUR
MOTTO |
The school motto is
engraved in the RIS Senior pin, shaped like a shield and
bearing the Latin words Ad Astra above the symbol of a cross
and five stars. Translated "To the Stars," Ad
Astra has fired the zeal in every RISian to reach out for
the best not only in education but also in the development
of a truly well-rounded individual.
Together with the Senior cap and gown, the pin is presented
to every Senior at the traditional Senior Convocation held
at the beginning of each academic year, to impress upon each
Senior student the responsibilities that come along with
privileges.
|
| OUR
COLOR |
The school colors are white
and blue with a tinge of red. As in the Thai National flag,
these colors exemplify loyalty or patriotism with school
spirit and moral inspiration.
|
| OUR
TEAM |
Proudly the RIS sports
teams are known as "The Phoenix," a name symbolic
of unsurpassed beauty or excellence. In Egyptian mythology,
the phoenix is a beautiful bird that consumes itself by fire
every 500 years to rise anew from its ashes.

| OUR
THEMES |
RIS is a dynamic school
with a solid vision. One of the ways in which we constantly
move forward, with wonderful synergy among our
Parents, Students and Teachers, is by keeping our vision
ever relevant and meaningful. The school theme for 1995 and
1996 was "Seek to Serve."
The simple phrase served as a reminder that all service
begins with deep respect for every individual, whether
young or old, no matter where they are from or their
economic situation in life. In 1997 and 1998, the theme was
"Reach Out to Others and Communicate."
In verbal announcements of that theme, these words were
immediately added: "Communicate to understand one
another. " Since the start of the 1998-1999 school
year, RIS has had a new theme to help us march ahead in the
challenges of being part of the school: "Aim at
Excellence... and Go Beyond."
This theme imparts many important messages. Among them, that
inner personal excellence is a necessary starting point for any growth beyond. Goodness based on truth and love is a
positive support in aiming for excellence in the fields of
study, work, and in life's commitments. Every member of the
Ruamrudee International School community is encouraged to go
for their personal best. |
