Peace Pole Dedication

On November 19th, Ruamrudee International School had the honor of planting a Peace Pole in association with the World Peace Prayer Society. This was the first Peace Pole to be planted in any international school in the country of Thailand. We, the RIS community, accepted this opportunity with a deep sense of purpose and fulfillment of our school’s mission statement in educating our students as “collegial contributors, demonstrating empathy, moral leadership, concern and action for the good of others”.

The Peace Pole Project originated in Japan over three decades ago. The concept of establishing a focus for Peace in an educational institution has caught the imagination of many throughout the world. Unique to our Peace Pole is the fact that the message,

“May Peace Prevail on Earth”, is written in Thai, English, Chinese and Hindi, representative of our principal student populations. It is also unique in that we are the first organization in Asia to have our Peace Pole crafted by members of our own community. For this we are very grateful to Khun Prakob and his dedicated team of workers.

The significance of the Peace Pole being located in an educational institution cannot be underestimated. It is our hope that this Peace Pole, soon to become the focal point in a Garden of Peace and Remembrance, can be an inspiring reminder that peace on earth must begin in the hearts and minds of individuals.
