RIS Reacts Positively to Terrorism
Our world changed after September 11th, 2001. We, at Ruamrudee International School, were also moved to show care and love for those innocent people who died in the terrorist attacks. Father Travis called for a day of prayer and opened the school chapel to all who wanted a place to meditate or pray. The multi-national flags were arranged so that students could present tributes in poetry, prose and flowers.
Many students not only wrote poems and messages, but they also built models to show their compassion and thoughts. People passing the halls viewed these exhibitions. Here are some poems written by RIS Middle School Students:

The RIS students contributed money to the International Association of Fire Fighters. The total amount was $7,109.62.
Standing Taller
America had suffered;
But it didn’t disappear.
Many lives were lost;
But many more were safe.
Two tall buildings are gone;
But we can stand taller than that.
They succeeded in collapsing World Trade Center;
But not our souls.

The Eagle
Vultures fell from sunny blue skies
Causing tears to run from the eagle’s eyes
Structures of steel tumbled to the ground
But from the sky, the grace of God showered down
The eagle was injured to pain once forgotten
But the will that arises is something that’s certain
His fight to restore what his father fought for
Will show the king of vultures his faith ever more
Though storms of rage flooded the eagle’s mind
Storms that could only be calmed by the passage of time
And though he felt lost and astray
His faith and bravery never left him that day
September 11, 2001
Tears shed that day live forever beyond
Through God’s grace and his eternal kingdom
And though the future remains to be told
The eagle’s spirit remains ever so bold
