Message From Director
Dear RIS/RIST family,
As we come to the end of the school year, I would like say that it has been a wonderful year filled with challenges and personal growth for our students. Not only have we worked hard to achieve the school’s primary goal of promoting student learning, but with your enthusiasm and hard work we successfully launched the Sowing Seeds of Peace in the Mekong River Basin in January. We initiated Saturday community services and many other meaningful outreach programs for the less fortunate.
These endeavors are part of preparations to celebrate our upcoming 50th year anniversary in 2007 and promote the theme of “Building up and Reaching out”. The preparations for our celebration also include campus-wide renovations, and the enhancement of student learning through curriculum development and professional development for teachers.
We seek to balance two life essential values – self-improvement, and concern for others. In all that they do, our students have a strong sense of purpose and vision of the world. I would like to share with you a poem by William J. Bennett, “The Boy We Want”. We are proud of you, students of RIS and RIST!
“The Boy We Want”
A boy that is truthful and honest
And faithful and willing to work;
But we have not a place that we care to disgrace
With a boy that is ready to shirk
Wanted – a boy you can tie to,
A boy that is trusty and true,
A boy that is good to old people,
And kind to the little ones too.
A boy that is nice to the home folks,
And pleasant to sister and brother,
A boy who will try when things go awry
To be helpful to father and mother.
These are the boys we depend on –
Our hope for the future, and then
Grave problems of state and the world’s work await
Such boys when they grow to be men.
On behalf of the administration and faculty, I wish everyone a happy summer holiday.
